I dropped $3.2K on a computer that lacks a detachable stand, but older models supported this feature. I look to see how the VESA mount kit works for an older iMac, and there's a kit for the iMac Pro but not the iMac (this should have been my first red flag.) I buy the iMac Pro VESA mount adapter kit only to discover that Apple attaches the stand to the chassis in such a way that it can't be removed. I go to the Apple store and ask if I can mount the iMac using VESA and the support specialist basically said "I'm not sure, but if we supported this in the past I'm sure we still do". Not a big deal, I'll just use my old monitor, and buy dual monitor arms since the iMac stand sits too low anyway. Long story short: I bought a 2019 iMac, discovered on the second day that it can't be driven as an external monitor.
